Better Society Awards 2016 Shortlist Announcement

We are very proud to announce that we have been shortlisted with WeSeeHope at the Better Society Awards 2016 in the ‘Partnership with a National Charity’ category.

The Better Society Awards recognise the efforts that commercial companies make in order to help make a better society. The awards were created to reach out beyond the horizons of any one sector to assess and reward those who are helping create a better, more equal, ethical and sustainable world from the corporate perspective.

Six Degrees has been shortlisted because of its efforts to fundraise for WeSeeHope through Six Degrees of Hope, our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. WeSeeHope exists to support orphans and other vulnerable children and young people living in extreme poverty in Southern and Eastern Africa, working with 26 local project partners in 222 communities to restore, protect, educate and equip these children sustainably.

Six Degrees of Hope has been an integral part of Six Degrees since the company was founded four and a half years ago and has expanded as the business has grown. To date the initiative has raised £300,000 for WeSeeHope, and we have no intention of slowing down. 2015 was the most successful year so far, with £100,000 raised due to record-breaking annual events, such as the Six Degrees of Hope Golf Day and Pub Quiz, as well as new fundraisers such as a charity Ski Trip and an internal pool tournament.

2015 was also a milestone year for the charity as it celebrated its 15th birthday and rebranded itself from HOPEHIV to WeSeeHope.

The year ahead is already packed with Six Degrees of Hope events, including the upcoming annual Ski Trip, as well as two Six Degrees employees running the London Marathon, and another cycling 400km in Malawi. We are looking forward to further supporting WeSeeHope’s fantastic work in 2016.

Other partnerships that have been shortlisted at The Better Society Awards are the like of Royal Mail and Missing People, O2 and NSPCC, Yorkshire Building Society and Marie Curie, and UBS and IntoUniversity. The awards ceremony will be held on 12th May 2015 at the Millennium Hotel in London where the winner will be announced.
