Business Web Hosting

Six Degrees Group focuses purely on the complex web hosting portion of the market. Typically, this means that our customers are using us to host sites that are revenue generating (or, in the case of our charity customers, fund raising), transactional in nature, with links to back-end databases. An average customer deployment scenario is shown in the diagram below, based on a virtual private cloud scenario.

Business Web Hosting

The vast majority of inbound traffic would be Internet-based but we private network connectivity is available for secure maintenance and systems integration purposes. Four virtual machines are configured and load balanced for the main web servers. Adjacent to those are caching servers, in this case two Memcached servers on two VMs. Two SQL databases – e.g. MySQL or Microsoft SQL Server – interface directly with the web servers, perhaps for customer data collection or transaction processing. Finally, the entire customer deployment is hooked into our Cloud Managed Backup for resilience.

Many customers wish to work with us to design and rent the physical infrastructure on which the VMs reside – e.g. a private cloud, but the virtual server architecture would still be the same. It is very common for our customers to take additional resources for pre-planned traffic spikes (e.g. campaigns) in a hybrid cloud configuration. We are also very accustomed to hosting microsites – e.g. adjuncts to main websites for a specific and time-limited basis, as part of a broader digital marketing project.
